About Klaus Mikaelson…
I have to admit…I really love the Klaus character on both The Vampire Diaries and subsequent series, The Originals.
Yes…these shows are about vampires…and werewolves.
The acting can be pretty corny sometimes. But that’s what makes all the violence tolerable for me, lol!
The shows have really grown on me. So much so that I’ve watched both entire series through, from beginning to end, twice.
Not something I normally do.
Ok, The Tudors top those. I think I have watched that series at least 4 times now, omg!
But I digress…
Klaus Mikaelson’s character is captivating. Enthralling. I think it’s because, despite the fact he is capable of horrendous violence and bloodshed, he has a soft side, too. He wasn’t always the monster he has become. He became what he is because of the abuse he was compelled to endure, himself.
Not that I’m trying to justify his vile behavior. I’m not.
But I like that the series creators crafted his persona in such a way that we are able to see his profound intellect, his appreciation for elegance and refinement, his immense artistic abilities, his commitment to devotion and honor, and his (sometimes bizarre) love of family…though he has a very strange way of showing it sometimes.
I find myself rooting for him, a lot of the time.
Like…is it just me? Or did you also really wish there had been a more meaningful and long-term relationship between him and Caroline Forbes? Kind of in the same way that we were really made to w-a-n-t Bella to become a vampire in the Twilight series?
What’s that all about?
Why do we long to see the sweet, innocent protagonist seduced by the dark side?
Is it because we are all a mixture of good and bad? Yin and yang? Dark and light?
So, that’s why I decided to burn Klaus as the first character in my The Vampire Diaries/The Originals series.
I don’t know which character I’ll burn next…
I’d love to hear your opinion on that! Please comment below if you have a suggestion…I’m L-E-A-N-I-N-G toward two in particular, lol!
